Hello, my name is Yuko. I was born and raised in Japan and moved to Hawaii at 18 for university. Hawaii has been my home ever since.
I recently bought an akiya near my parents' home in Japan. Even as a native Japanese speaker, I found the process difficult to navigate. The challenge wasn't the language. It was the unspoken assumptions, indirect communication, and regional customs that aren't explained clearly.
When I shared my experience, many people reached out with the same goal but didn't know where to start. I understand both the Japanese cultural context and the challenges foreign buyers face.
Today, I help clients explore akiya properties through consulting and coordination services. I explain the buying process, clarify cultural and procedural nuances, and coordinate communication with licensed Japanese real estate professionals.
My role is to help clients understand what's happening at each stage and communicate effectively.
I do not represent buyers or sellers, negotiate terms, or conduct real estate transactions. All transactions are handled by licensed Japanese real estate professionals under Japanese law.
Disclosure: I hold a U.S. real estate license (Hawaii). My akiya consulting services are separate from my U.S. license. I do not provide real estate brokerage, representation, or transactional services for properties in Japan.
